5 Best Car Seat Belts For A Cocker Spaniel

We love our dogs and would do anything to protect them, they are family members after all.

Choosing a car seat belt that’s best suited for your Cocker Spaniel is paramount when it comes to their safety, as well as yours.

So which is the best car seat belt for a Cocker Spaniel? Well below I will list my top 5 but overall, the Best Car Seat Belt For A Cocker Spaniel is the Just Pet Zone Adjustable Premium Car Seat Belt.

If you are in a rush, here’s the link to check it out on Amazon.

Should Your Dog Wear A Seat Belt

This a very common question but when you think about it, the answer is obvious.

YES!!!! Your dog should wear a seat belt.

I for one, would never let a person ride in my car without wearing their seat belt. It all boils down to ensuring safety for every person traveling in the car so why should an animal be treated any differently?

Personally, I feel the law should be changed so that any dog or cat etc, must be securely fastened into a car seat via some sort of safety belt or harness.

Now just because there’s no law saying you have to do this, doesn’t mean you should just plonk your pet in the seat and off you.

My Cocker Spaniel doesn’t like being in the car at all and if I didn’t fasten him securely into a seat, I know for a fact he would be trying to climb all over me and I definitely wouldn’t be able to drive.

My big Springer Spaniel didn’t mind being in the car and especially loved it when the window was open and he could stick his head out a little bit and feel the breeze.

There’s no way in hell I would have opened the window if he wasn’t fastened in securely. Imagine if he tried to jump out?

Benefits Of Buckling Your Dog Up

I will try not to turn this into a massive rant about why you should have seat belts for your dog but it really does grind my gears when I see irresponsible dog owners letting their pups jump around while they are driving.

I will quickly run through the main reasons you should ensure your dog is buckled in during transport.

  • Trying to escape the vehicle. If your dog doesn’t like traveling or is distracted by something outside, he may try and leap out the window, even if it’s not open. Either way, not a good end result.
  • If a dog gets distressed or overexcited, he could easily cause the car’s airbag to deploy causing him an injury.
  • He could stick his head or whole upper body way too far out of an open window and quite easily collide with something on the roadside.
  • Heaven forbid you are in a collision, an unsecured dog could do some serious damage to themself or others,

How Do Dog Car Seat Belts Work?

Car seat belts for dogs can work in a few different ways. Some work by attaching one end to your dog’s collar or harness then locking into the car’s own seat belt fastener.

Others, such as headrest belts, loop over the top of a car’s headrest and then are fastened securely to the dog.

Whichever one you decide to go for, it will be safe for your Cocker Spaniel, it’s all just a matter of preference.

My 5 Top Rated Best Car Seat Belts For Cocker Spaniels

  1. Just Pet Zone Premium Adjustable Car Seat Belt

I have used this model or earlier versions pretty much the entire time I have had a driving license which is 17 years. I’ve also had Spaniels during that time so it’s without hesitation that this is my number one choice.

The thing I like most about this car seat belt is that it features a unique elastic nylon bungee buffer so, in the event of an impact or sharp braking, the bungee allows for a little leeway and prevents shock attenuation.

In English, it helps prevent your dog from whiplash.

Key Features

  • 2 Pack – Convenient if you have 2 dogs or 2 cars
  • Fully adjustable for 53 – 73cm
  • Easy to use, quick attach and release system
  • 360-degree rotation swivel so guaranteed no tangle

2. Just Pet Zone Headrest Car Seat Belt

Coming in at number 2 on my list is another offering from Just Pet Zone. This particular model secures itself over the top of a car seat headrest then fastens either to dogs harness.

Please Note: Must be fastened to a harness when used in the car. Not suitable for attachment to a collar when used inside a vehicle.

Like my number one choice on the list, it features the same elasticated bungee buffer to prevent whiplash and injury to your dog

Key Features

  • 2 Pack – Convenient if you have 2 dogs or 2 cars
  • Fully adjustable up to 73cm for even the biggest Spaniel
  • Easy to use, quick attach and release system

  • 3 choices of color
  • Can be used as a lead to walk you Cocker Spaniel

When I first used this seat belt, I was slightly concerned that a very active Cocker Spaniel would easily be able to lift the loop over the top of the headrest but this proved to be far from the truth.

My Guinness is a very bad traveler and gets very unsettled but the belt really does fasten around and under the headrest more securely than I envisaged.

My Overall Rating: 5 Stars

3. Ezee Paws Adjustable Safety Car Seat Belt

Number 3 on my top 5 list is the very popular adjustable car seat harness lead made by the brand, Ezee Paws.

I loved the simplistic design of this seat belt. It features easy to use trigger clip and is fully adjustable to ensure the correct fitting for whatever size your Cocker Spaniel may be.

It can easily be altered to allow your dog to comfortably sit or lie down while traveling.

4. PetGear Dog Seat Belt

I do love a bargain and that’s exactly what you get with this offering from PetGear.

Cheap and cheerful springs to mind but don’t be fooled. This car seat belt will be perfect for even the most boisterous and strongest Cocker Spaniel.

It’s fully adjustable for the most comfortable fit and securely connects your dogs’ harness to your cars seat belt lock

5. SlowTon 2 Pack Adjustable Dog Seat Belt

The 5th entry on my list may well deserve a higher ranking but I have actually only used this particular seat belt once with my Cocker Spaniel.

We hired a car for a day which was advertised as pet-friendly if needed. We selected this option and SlowTon seat belts were provided.

I have to say, I was pretty impressed with it. I particularly like the reflective strip which is hand seen as this seat bat can also be used as a dog walking lead.

Key Features

  • 2 Pack – Convenient if you have 2 dogs or 2 cars
  • Fully adjustable up to 73cm for even the biggest Spaniel
  • Easy to use, quick attach and release system
  • 360-degree rotation swivel so guaranteed no tangle
  • 7 choices of color
  • Reflective Strip
  • Can be used as a lead to walk you, Cocker Spaniel

Even though I was really impressed with this car seat belt, I can’t put it any higher on my recommended list simply because I have only ever used it once.

I also haven’t used it for walking my Cocker Spaniel so I can’t give an honest opinion on that aspect of the seat belt but it does currently have a 5-star rating on Amazon at the time of writing this post.

My Overall Rating: 4 Stars
